Gossip Girl Fashion

Unfortunately my easter holidays have come to an end, and tomorrow it's back to school: back to waking up early, back to going to bed late, teachers, lessons, homework and all that bore. On the positive side I'll be reunited with my friends, whom I dearly miss and our fantastic lunchtimes when we lay on the ground sunbathing and talking (and of course eating!).
To mark my entrance into my last 9 days of lessons (as I am a year 11 and have exams in May and June, I get study leave and I don't have to come to school during the exams) I have decided to show you my favourite Gossip Girl school looks. Serena, Blair and Jenny all have their very distinct styles, yet they all look like they have come out of a runway. It's hard to say which one I like best, and which style is mine because to be frank I have a bit of every style. One day I might look like one of Blair's preppy yet amazing girls, another day I might be going for Serena's urban, equestrian look, or I might look like a rock and roll star due to Jenny's most recently aquired dark (with a tint of colour) yet super chic look.
Another negative point to going back to school is that I can't dress like these three fashion muses anymore, as I have to wear uniform and a pretty inflexible one, even when I wear a headband I get told off for not following school regulation. My physics teachers jokes with us by saying that next year we will have to use school underwear! Which just to make it clear I would never use.
Here are some photos of my favourite gossip girls.

What Gossip Girl character do you relate to? Or do you hate all their styles?
I want to know all of your opinions!

Proust and the Paris of the Gay Nineties

With a title like that what could I possibly be talking about?!
In fact that was Anna Sui's inspiration for the Fall 2009 Ready-to-wear collection. The Belle Époque was a period in Paris fashion in which the women were strong and really drove the fashion forward, and in Anna's collection we can see that. The outfits are strong, but feminine (how could they not with rose prints and velvet?). This collection not only reminded me of Paris, but I also saw a bit of folklore mixed with an ostentatious boudoir look. The hats are amazing, although I think I wouldn't wear them, the boots have a very equestrian feel to them and the accessories are more than magnificent! Anna Sui couldn't have done a better job. Very sexy, very fun, very rock and roll! That's all I can say.

What do you think about this look for fall? Too out there for you, or a perfect statement of your personality?
Give me your thoughts!

Sir Yes Sir

As you all know, I was amazed by the spread in Teen Vogue, "Enchanted Soldier", so I decided to put together some outfits. I mixed girly items with frills and lace, with boots, boy shorts, soldier jackets, blazers and army inspired items. Here was the result:

This one reminds of a boy scout. Coat- Zara; Blouse- Anthropologie; Shorts- New Yorker; Boots- Anthropologie; Bag- Robin Ruth/ Paris.

This outfit is more refined. I wanted to mix mens wear (blazer) with girly florals. Blazer- Paris Hilton; Blouse- Desigual; Skirt-Sfera; Boots- Anthropologie; Bag- Nine & Co.

Here is an outfit which could be used for a formal occasion. The military jacket and boots give it that extra edge. Very hardcore. Jacket- Zara; Dress- Zara, Boots- Cubanas; Bag-Friday's Project.

Here I was going for a more school boy type of look. The ruffles on the blouse give it a more feminine touch. Blouse-Anthropologie; Trousers- Elle; Boots- Cubanas; Bag- Urban Outfiters.

The final outfit is a darker, more hardcore look with a bit of floral patterns. Shirt- Friday's Project; Dress- Moon/ Italy; Bag- Poodlebag.

What do you guys think about these looks?

Hong Kong Garden

So yestreday I bulit up the courage to actually show some of my friends and my sister my blog. So far I have had good feed back, but the person who made me smile the most was my sister. She sent me an email saying how much she liked my blog although (and I  quote) she  felt like a "a twisted and clumsy elephant in the midst of your illuminated thoughts on clothes and shoes" (sounds better in portuguese). At the end she also said that she liked the title and the heading because it reminded her of Marie Antoinette.
JACK POT! My beloved sister just gave me an idea for my next blog post. So I would like to dedicate everything you see here to my sister because without her and her crazy comments (love the elephant metaphor), I wouldn't have learnt so much from a single blog post.

MARIE ANTOINETTE
Everybody knows that La Dauphine (as I like to call her) was the epicentre of french and possibly world fashion during the reign of Louis XVI. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1755 Marie Antoinette found herself married at the young age 14 to Le Dauphin de France Louis Auguste, who later became King Louis XVI. So to actually write this post I had to do a lot of research on not just la Dauphine but also of the fashion of that time and how it has influnced recently.
First of all I love the 2006 September issue of Vogue where Kirsten Dunst appears on the cover as we all know who. What I love about the cover is the HAIR, which at the time was known as coiffure or headdress and included hair, false hair, powder, hats and ornaments and could come up to 50.8 cm of height and sometimes even more. Thank God that fashion didn't continue, imagine doing that every day!
Second of all the dresses are amazing! This type of court dress which was characterised by the pannier or hooped skirt frame. It was extended widely at the sides but was very straight at the front and back.
The shoes are also amazing. They were normally heavily embroidered, bejeweled and decorated with ribbon tie or rosette. They really are little princess doll shoes. The next pictures are from the Vogue spread shot by the magnificent Annie Lebovitz. The dresses are opulent and absolutely flabbergasting!!

So what do you think about the TEEN QUEEN?

P.S. The title of the post "Hong Kong Garden" is from the soundtrack of the movie Marie Antoinette.
